Discovery

Casas Secretas, which translates to secret houses, is a collection of our family homes all of which are surrounded by the beauty of the hinterland in the more hidden parts of the Byron Bay region. Each of our homes has been lived in and loved by our family members at different stages of their lives.

Our family’s connection to the hinterland started many years ago when we decided to take a drive in the country behind Byron Bay. We found ourselves at the top of a hill looking out across lush rolling pastures set against a backdrop of red, orange and pink skies. From that moment we had found our special place.  Many years on and we are blessed to be able to share this place, its beauty, its lifestyle and our family’s experience in it, with others who discover us on their own journey.

Home

Home is about a sense of comfort, a sense of care, and a sense of being able to be who we are. Families create homes that uniquely reflect how they live, their sense of style and beauty, and the individuals that make up the family. Casas Secretas homes are a family affair. They reflect each of us and all of us and how we have lived as a family over the years.

Design

An unexpected series of events provided the need for mother, Julie, and daughter, Lucy, to work together on the design, renovation and furnishing of each home. Coming from very different professional backgrounds mother and daughter found a wonderful serendipity in the way each project has evolved. Each home seemed to speak of its own past and future creating an easy collaboration. The process has been an inspiration giving us the opportunity to reflect and bring to life our ideas in the places and spaces that we now share.

Local 

The beauty of the hinterland and its community has created an abundance of inspiration for local artisans. Our homes share with our guests our favourite pieces collected and much loved over the years. Bronze sculptures, ceramics, art and rustic aged timber tables all tell of the passion and dedication of their creator,  and the stories they have witnessed.

Nature

The natural beauty of the hinterland behind Byron Bay is truly breath taking. Our homes are designed so that whatever is happening outside in nature can be experienced from the inside of our homes. From the kitchen you can watch the sun go down, from the bath you can watch the wildlife, from the bedroom maybe a misty morning. Our visitors often tell us stories of home, holidays and dreams of new places all inspired by a moment sitting outside.
